Art theft forces end of The Waiting Room Gallery

The Waiting Room Gallery will no longer be curating the space at 3258 Larimar Street in RiNO due to the theft of artwork. It opened in April of 2021 as a non-traditional gallery space with the goal to enliven and activate common spaces of this quaint building with well curated art by reputable artists from Denver and beyond. Unfortunately, in the late hours of February 24, 2022 an individual broke into the building and took much of the art from the 2nd floor – 8 pieces worth a total of $27,000.

Curator Dan Drossman would be devastated by any loss of art like this, but is especially so, as the exhibit featured work created by his friends and classmates from his MFA class of 2006. The artists were not local, mostly hailing from the east coast. As established artists, it is a huge blow to have their inventory of artworks diminished – the time, talent and materials to create these original pieces is a big investment so it will be impossible for the artists to recover this loss of income without having the work to sell. Unfortunately, due to an insurance oversight the works are not covered.

Drossman encourages the public to be on the lookout for these works, below.
